A Large Family Photosession Extravaganza

Not long ago, I had the great pleasure of photographing a big family gathering in Seattle. This shoot was pretty special because it celebrated a wonderful mom turning 80! There were 21 family members, plus an adorable dog, all gathered to show their love.

We took all the photos in the family’s lovely backyard garden. It was filled with bright flowers and lush greenery, making it a perfect backdrop. The beauty of nature really added to the warm and happy vibe of the day.

We scheduled the photoshoot a few hours before sunset, during what photographers call the "golden hour." This time is great because the light is soft and flattering. The sunlight peeked through the clouds, creating an amazing atmosphere for our session.

At first, the weather was on our side with overcast skies that provided nice, even lighting. However, as we wrapped up the session, a light rain started to fall. It might have worried some people, but we quickly moved into the cozy warmth of the family home. It turned out to be a great spot for more intimate photos!

With 21 people in one shoot, organizing everyone can be challenging. We had all the kids and grandkids there, and everyone was excited to celebrate their amazing mom! I aimed for a bold and dramatic style that you might find in a fashion magazine. The love and happiness in this family really came through in all the images.

The biggest hurdle was getting everyone coordinated. It took some time and patience, but we managed to capture beautiful moments filled with connection and love. A bit of humor and teamwork helped make it fun for everyone!

Once the shoot was done, I got to work on editing. I chose a dramatic and moody style to enhance the importance of this milestone occasion. The edits really highlighted the love and joy of the family celebration.

There were so many memorable moments during the session, especially with the family dog stealing the spotlight! It was heartwarming to see how close and loving the family was with each other.

When I delivered the photos, the family was overjoyed! They absolutely loved the pictures and were thrilled with how I captured their bond.
